Assistant Manager duties and responsibilities
Assist the Executive Director (ED) as directed
Source, train, schedule and manage volunteers in front desk tasks
Develop good volunteer and guest relationships and address volunteer and guest needs
Help manage purchasing, inventory, maintenance and other operational functions
Develop strategies for better workplace efficiency and goal achievement
Liaise between Director, Board of Directors (as necessary), Guests, Volunteers and referring organizations, such as hospital/cancer center
Serve as acting Executive Director when ED is away
What will the Assistant Manager at Hanson House do?
The Assistant Manager supports the Executive Director in the daily responsibilities required to keep a business running smoothly. The front desk of the facility should be open 7 days a week/12 hours per day. Volunteers run the front desk, and open and close the facility. In the absence of volunteers at the desk, the Assistant Manager will share those duties with the ED, potentially covering various shifts through the week. The Assistant Manager will train and direct Volunteers and ensure that work is being completed in a timely and effective manner. The Assistant Manager will be involved in Volunteer sourcing and dismissal procedures and may perform disciplinary action when needed. Guest concerns and disputes may be brought to the Assistant Manager to resolve. Individuals in this role should research and propose new opportunities for workplace improvement and revenue growth. The Hanson House Assistant Manager should be a great leader, problem solver and effective communicator.
Assistant Manager skills and qualifications
Since the Assistant Manager will be essential to the efficient operation of Hanson House, they need to be flexible, adept at multi-tasking, and well-versed in the hospitality/non-profit environment. Some of the qualifications and skills useful for an Assistant Manager are:
Excellent verbal communication, and the ability to convey information clearly and effectively
Strong leadership abilities and initiative
Excellent delegator and mediator
Great interpersonal skills and Guest service
Comfortable with digital media
Another language, ie: Spanish or Mandarin would be helpful
Quick decision-making and problem-solving abilities
Excellent time management
Responsible, goal oriented and organized
Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask
Confident, proactive and willing to take on challenges
Great listening skills and able to take direction from the ED (and Board members)

Assistant Manager salary expectations
The salary range for the Assistant Manager is $18,00 to $20.00 per hour.
Assistant Manager education and training requirements
A high school diploma or equivalent is important. A bachelor’s degree or post-secondary education is appreciated. This is a good job for someone starting out or in a pre/post retirement situation. It is a good place for a complete job redirection.
Assistant Manager experience requirements
Previous, relevant (hospitality/non-profit/customer service) experience is encouraged, however the best applicant is someone who is flexible, can run typical office PC software packages and is personable, empathetic and helpful.
